Divorce in western culture is rampant. The chances of a wedding ending in a divorce is more than 50% (I don't know the exact figures). However, what I'm trying to get at is that as people from nepal, where divorce is a western phenomenon i.e. divorce is looked down upon soically and culturally, what do you guys think about it. Before I go any further, let me explain that I am trying to think like a woman from a poor underdeveloped country where I dont have any choices. (I'm a guy by the way just to make things clear and if what I think is offending to any woman or man, Please enlighten me)
Just to get my point of view out there, I think that women in nepal are insecure socially and are very dependent on the man they marry. Add to that the mix that no matter what, the woman who gets a divorce is going to be ostracized===> A potent mix of I call, Man is Man in Nepal. What leads me to beleive this is that if woman had other choices wouldnt they want that to get out of that marriage. For example, A Forty year old woman who knows her husband is cheating on her has very limited choices. Lets look at this in a more realistic way, lets say your parents decided to get a divorce, how many choices to lead a good life would your mom have?? However we as Nepalese still think that Divorce is a bad thing even in an abusive relationship.
I'm not trying to advocate divoreve but if we empower women our country would be a lot better and not that much hypocritical.

"All women are subtle in exaggerating their weaknesses; they are inventive when it comes to weaknesses in order to appear as utterly fragile ornaments who are hurt even by a speck of dust. Their existence is supposed to make men feel clumsy, and guilty on that score"

Dude! why are you trying to think like a girl?

Anyway, you are trying too hard.. take it easy. ppl get divorced for various reason but everybody blame it to one and only thing........... " IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCE".

Well I had a long discussion abt this cousin of mone abt this toic and we talked like for hours and hours. Anyway the main thing is that even in the USA divorce rates started going up once the women started becoming dependent and standong on their own feet. I would comment more but I could not understand what Zarathrustra's main emphasis and point was.
But if he is trying to say that Dependency is a very important factor in determining the divorce of a couple, then I totally agree.

Chek this out http://www.nationmaster.com/red/graph-T/peo_div_rat&int=20

These days marriage just seems to be a Typical contract:

Woman: When I'm ready to settle down, I want a nice secure guy who will support me and help raise my kids. I also want him to forget the fact that I've been complaining "there are no nice guys around" for YEARS, while every month I had a different boyfriend who treated me like shit, gave me diseases, knocked me up, and now I'm having his kid. I am going to pretty much rely on my new husband for income, but if I should ever get bored with Mr. Nice guy and decide to cheat (Badboys are more fun), we're going to divorce, and I'll take 50% of everything and share it with my NEW boyfriend. Oh yeah. btw, I love you sooo much honey. That's why I never called you on weekends for so many years, while I used you like a bitch for favors during the week. hmmm.

Man: I will marry the sexiest girl available, who will stay young for the longest time (and maybe take good care of the kids while I'm working all the time).

Sounds like a fair deal. GRRRRRRR
