Apply the value chain and competitive forces models to the music industry. What role did the Internet play in changing value propositions and the competitive environment? To what extent has it been responsible for declining CD sales? what do you think of Napster, itunes opposed to free downloads such as limewires using torrent files?

what??? do you know the cost of making a cd??? do you know how much they sell them cds for??? just look at the profit margin for each cd they sell... most of the artist don't even make much money from selling cds, only pop idols does. all the profit goes towards the music industry's ceo... selling cds doesn't make an artist better...

Music Industry 101 Before you start talking about profits and copy right.... he he You have to have a viable product. Now depending upon what sorta product you are making ....decides Where its gonna go. If you wanna make a mainstream TOP 40 music .. then yes MUSIC INDUSTRY WILL TAKE MORE THAN 50% of you cut. You will be lucky if you get maybe 30% of oyur own music. The Music Industry MOKEYS WILL BE RIDING ON YOUR MUSIC with their 6 figure salary( cause you will need their help to have YOUR PRODUCT it distributed through out the country cause they hold the keys to monopolize the prodction and distribution part). But if you sign up with an indie small label and know ur shits good and will sell. Then you might be able to hold you own and demand from copyright to engineering to touring. It is the hard way but people have done it. Like The Strokes did it, Clap your hands and say yeah did it(as a matter of fact I don't think they are siged up to a label yet, so they get 100% of ther sale. I know for sure that for a while they were only selling cd's fro the back of their touring van). In this case YOU will be responsible for everything not your record company.

So whats the main reason behind the declining CD sales? Is it due to the value chain and competitive forces models to the music industry?
