UML joining Maoist-led government
Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, Aug 28 - The CPN-UML has decided to join the Maoist-led government after its stance to stay in the second hierarchy was fulfilled on Thursday.
The main ally in the three-party alliance, Maoist agreed to provide second hierarchal position in the government to the UML, the third largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA) and the second major in the alliance.
The two major communist parties finally reached to an understanding at a meeting held this noon between Maoist chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML general secretary Jhalanath Khanal.
Earlier, the UML had announced not to join the government at the eleventh hour after the Maoist placed its senior leader and Minister for Finance Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai at the second hierarchal position in the cabinet.
Emerging from today’s conclusive meeting at Maoist CA party office in Singhadurbar, Prime Minister Dahal informed that the minister nominees of the UML will be sworn in on Friday.
The UML has already decided that a team led by Bamdev Gautam will represent the party in the government. Gautam has been nominated the Minister for Home Affairs in the Maoist-led government.
UML chief Khanal said that the party is participating in the government since the conflict over hierarchal issue has been resolved.
He further went on to deny the reports about differences within the party over the nominees to be participating in the government. The party will now secure six ministries as per the earlier power sharing deal.
The UML has decided to handover the Ministry of Water Resources to Bishnu Poudel, the Local Development Ministry to Ram Chandra Jha and the Ministry for Forest and Soil Conservation to Kiran Gurung, while Asta Laxmi Shakya and Gopal Shakya has been forwarded for the Ministry of Industry Commerce and Supplies and the Ministry of Youth and Sports respectively.

HIMAL BRO..
i did not read ur post. I just hate the idealogy of despotism ..communism...I believe in the idea of freedom. UML and Maobadis may have good intentions ,but the ideology they embraced is totally misanthropic. Human beings are born to be free. they are born to be talk whatever they want to .But the communists or nazis or fascists..or Robert Mugabeeistic..they are just social paraquat..
Bro ..The book "das Capital" is antiquated. Marxism is not dead already.I think Congress should take over the government. Sher bahadur Deuba should have been the PM. Prachanda must be charged with War Crime ..and he should be tried by International Criminal Court just like former yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevi.....
I will never support any thing that is related with communism...Communism is like that virus of polio. It cripples the human soul...and i can't tolerate that..

sher bahadur and girija koirala are worse than commuinism in nepal so there is no point in ur argument. they became the prime minister in numerous occassions and they failed. they r the most corrupted leaders. u cud compare them to mugabee coz sher had done so much corruption that ppl claim he cud be the second richest person in nepal. but this is unverified claim so i cant really comment on tht.
i read ur post coz i thought u had some smart and intellectual opinion but turned out to be the same lame and hopeless opinions that we see all the time in sajha.

Cabinet expansion delayed as Maoists engage in further deliberations
The expected expansion of the cabinet could not take place, Friday, as the internal deliberations of the Maoists are set to continue.
The meeting of the central committee secretariat of the Maoists held at Prime Minister's official residence at Baluwatar, Friday failed to name the additional Maoist leaders who would be joining the cabinet. The Maoist leaders have said they will continue deliberations to induct other parties including the 'smaller parties.'
According to Maoist spokesperson and Information Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has been entrusted to select Maoist leaders on the basis of principle of inclusion to be inducted in the cabinet.
As such, the expansion of the cabinet set for Friday has been put off till Sunday.
Meanwhile, reports have said that there are dissensions within the Maoist leadership regarding giving the second position in the cabinet to Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) leader Bamdev Gautam. Finance Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai who enjoys the second position, currently, is said to be unhappy over the decision to let the UML get seniority over him. But these reports could not be confirmed.(although its not confirmed but Iam 100% sure thats why its cabinet expansionis delayed and UML is pendulum)
At present, there are nine members in the cabinet including PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and four ministers, each, of Maoists and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF).
Meanwhile, UML general secretary Jhal Nath Khanal has informed that his party will join the government after PM Dahal informed him of his willingness to induct Gautam in second position

Dr. Bhattarai piqued over efforts to downgrade his position in cabinet
Finance Minister and senior Maoist leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai is said to have expressed his dissatisfaction over the decision of his party to let the UML leader Bamdev Gautam have the second position in the cabinet, according to Kantipur daily.
The daily quotes sources as saying that Dr. Bhattarai even threatened to resign from the cabinet unless the decision is reconsidered.
The differences came to the fore at the central secretariat meeting of the Maoists, Friday.
This led to delay in the cabinet expansion, which was to take place on Friday.
The daily adds that the expansion would lead to appointment of three deputy prime ministers – Bamdev Gautam from UML, Dr. Bhattarai from Maoists and Upendra Yadav from Madhesi Janadhikar Forum.
It adds quoting sources as saying that the Maoists have also reached internal understanding to give the job of acting prime minister to Dr. Bhattarai every time Prime Minister goes on foreign trip by ensuring that minister Gautam will also accompany him. nepalnews.com sd Aug 30 08

Mr. Himalaya178,
What are the other choices for UML? I mean, if you had to manage the party, how would you have done it?
It is easier said than done, isn't it?
