Refernce: IRD - Inland Revenue Dept of Nepal

http://www.ird.gov.np/overviewdisplay.php?t=Bases%20of%20Tax%20and%20Income%20Accounting%202058&l=Nepali&y=2002&c=Income%20Tax

India made successful move by attracting NRIs all around the world and encouraged to get their funds to India, however, now with Nepal's baby govt enforcing Double-Taxation Law that aims to be rich to fund their political drama, feed the thugs, party, and make foreign trips to discourage Nepalese all around the wold, will be out-right a total failure. Govt should adopt transparency and investigate abusing power, corruption, smugglings within the nation and if shown Tax-Paid abroad on the Funds, and if Nepalese are willing to remit, their money hard earned abroad, Govt should welcome that move. They can if to be taxed, minimal to encourage more influx of money from Abroad.
Only 2,700 people who probably feared to avoid investigation on their illegitimate earned income moved ahead to pay taxes, even WITHIN Nepal.
Taxes is good and should be implemented if it pays to the people who pay taxes. Like Security as a very basic need, opportunity for business environment, and atleast some electricity, for this 2nd richest country in the world, in Water Resource, after Brazil. They should also especially RICH Maos leaders should FIRST disclose their on property, Hopefully Dr Baburam Bhattarai Finance Minister, His Wife - Tourisim Minister, Daughter Student Leader, and brother, sisters, all others holding Top Govt position as soon as their Moogly life ended SHOW someee evidence of taxes paid. Forget the taxes, they don't even show their actual income required by LAW of Nepal

SHAME ON YOU! Whoever is thinking to be smart! This is inviting civil war from all concerned, NC started Madhesis to neutralize Maos, and now when they moved to so much unexpected level, they raised Tharus and now Muslims too, after Limbuwan and other ethnic uprising. This is BAD.

Hope,

It's may not applicabale for us, who reside and work. I assume that this is only for government employees who are taking double benefits (i.e. working in Foreign embassies, office on behalf of government and drawing huge amount of salary in the name of out-station-allowance, which was non-taxabale previous. For example Ministry of foreign office employees, NAC (previously RNAC) etc.)

Could you post me the link for the first notice. I can clarify with the government official, if possible. If they enforce to us- its outrage.

Thanks

It is for all of us guys....basically if you have paid taxes abroad you will not have to pay taxes in Nepal else you will have to pay taxes in Nepal. Whats wrong in it?? You want your government to develop your country. That needs some money right?? You don't want your Prime Minister to beg infront of foreigners all the time. It is good for the country as long as the money is used for development. If you are happy to pay SSN taxes and medicare in USA when you know you are never going to receive any benefits out of it why worry about paying taxes for your own country. Where is your patrotism now??

I think enforcement is going to be an issue considering Nepali Goverment does not have any data on anyone...

It's old act and even it was not implement for government employees where were deployed in foreign countries by collecting huge money of bribe, undertable from the political parties and their associates.

The salary (base salary) only taxable and rest of the amount has not been taxed in Nepal, which they were drawing in the name of outstation allowance, allowance, maintenance, accommodation, transportation, etc , which was more than 10-20 times higher than the existing base salary. That must be taxable, because they were drawing the salary from the national funds.

However, it was supershade by so many provisions- every year through budget.

So worry free and watch the new budget 2066 (mid Jestha).

Thanks

As long as the money is put into right use into developmental programs by the Government, I do not see it as a bad move. But with the political leaders in Nepal being as corrupt as they already are, I think all this tax money or lets say a significant portion of it is only going to fill in the pockets of those in power.
