I am planning to go to Nepal between - Jan 15th and Feb 15th. I got a H1B approval from my company (which is not a consultancy) and I work as a full time employee. I wanted to know what kind of documents are required from me, as well as my company. Also, I am planning to do a Masters degree (distance learning) from Boston University once I come back (self pay). I wonder whether it would be a good idea to include this acceptance documentation or not include it. Please post your experience and required documents. Also, it would be nice to have Sajha admin make this post on top of the list or something in the Immigration section. I checked other websites for this, such as murti, and others, and did find some resources. However, I think that Visa rules are different for different countries. Thank you.

I am planning for something like 4 weeks. I worked some extra time last push and have some vacation time. If anyone can write their experiences, and required documents for the VISA, and also how long it would take these days, that would be great.

I recently got my H1B stamped in Kathmandu and my job is not through consultancy either. Documents that you'd need are: your company offer letter, h1b approval notice (carry the whole application packet - just in case), passport. These three are most. But to be on the safe side, w2 from last year, filed tax paper from last year and last 3 pay stubs. And make sure to get a freaking sticker from Labor department to show that you've purchased life insurance to work outside. Its office is in between new baneshwor and old baneshwor. You can get a helper around office who can guide you through the process. I've a number for one of the helper. His name is Sailesh Shrestha and his mobile is 9808-457936. The documents that you;ll need in shram bivag are Passport original (plus 2 photocopies, 1 for shram bivag and 1 for Life insurance) Citizenship original (1 photocopy for shram) 1 passport size photo 1 copy of dr. certificate to show that you are healthy (if you don't want to make a new one include the one that you made when you first applied to the US) those pricks don't care you'll also need two Rs. 5 stamps for forms... Beema/rajaswa payment paper (Rs 1000 getting this is the first step) this is good for 2 years for 1 lakh the office is at the bottom of the white building on the right hand side. Life Insurance u need to purchase (there is one called NICO i forgot the name but its right across the shram office and Sailesh can help expedite the process) this cost me Rs 1970 and its good for two years for 3 lakhs or sth. like that. The two receipts and the sticker u'll get in passport u'll have to show at the airport. You'll need to goto shram bivag room 7c (third floor i think..) to get the freaking form fill that out along with necessary documents. Go to the one stairs above to the orientation section, he'll do something on the form and come back down to 7a or sth. to do RUJU which freaking means that the dumbass sitting over there will look at your form and just put tick signs then you come back to the place where you got the form from.. a policeman is always there you can ask for the form from him.... then you submit your passport and the filled form at 7c and that guy enters your record in dhadda and puts sticker and signs and dates and you get your passport back and you're good for next three years..... you'll be so glad if you take care of this task as early as possible after getting your h1b stamped. Give sailesh a call, the dude's kool.. he doesn't have a set fees or anytihng.. but i gave him 200Rs for his assitance to get me the Life insurance quickly as you'll have trouble fiding the building and working abournd people quickly .....he was saying you can pay me as i please.. and i had promised him to refer to other applicants so you all will have to face a little less hassle. well i hope this helps. i have a copy of the form but i don't have a scanner right now but once i get back to states in couple of days i'll make sure to post the form which is also a royal pain in the butt to get hehehe Welcome back to Nepal guys and gals!!! and Good luck with your process.

Forgot one more thing for shram... u'll need to put a copy of your offer letter from the company as well. Bring the whole document set that you'll take to embassy just in case you don't have to run back home to get it. Good Luck!

Thank you for your reply. What did they ask you in the interview? And how long did it take for you to get the interview and the visa stamp? I don't have more than 1 month (max) for stay in Nepal, so. Is this goign to be a 3 year visa or a 6 year visa? Thank you once again for your reply. And, congrats!

LetsplayGolf,
H1b is the American Way of Hiring a Cheap Foreign labor..
Kg21,is Absolutely right Abt Carrying the Whole Application packet. It doesn't hamper in Carrying All the Docs u have..
Objectis, It's Normally Going to be a 3 Year Visa if ur H1B Approval says h1b Approved for 3 years..But there are Cases in which the Visa is Granted only for the time there is a Project i.e If there is a Project for 1 year, Visa is Only Granted for 1 year regradless of ur H1B Approval Document. Since u are not working for a Consultant, Most probably u will get 3 years Visa..
"Also, I am planning to do a Masters degree (distance learning) from Boston University once I come back (self pay). I wonder whether it would be a good idea to include this acceptance documentation or not include it."
You don't need to Include Acceptance Documentation to Apply for H1b visa..

I wanted to include that info because I am planning to study + its recession time - I thought it would make more sense if they know I am planning to spend some money I earn by paying for college too..

Objectis, It's ur Judgement call..U don't Need to Show them the money u earn is Going to Be paid For College..Everyone Know it's recession and I don't think that PPL at US consulate at KTM really give a shit abt paying the Money for Ur College..The most imp thing is having a Legitimate Job and Fulfilling the requirements of H1b Status..

One month is more that enough to get visa date. In my opinion, showing university acceptance letter and saying that u r gonna change from H1 to F1 may have negative impact on your visa processing. The counselor may think that ur primary reason to go to US is not job but study. As u know lots of financial documents and documents showing tie to the country are not needed for H1 visa. So if the counselor thinks ur primary intention is study not job, then he may ask for docs that u require for H1. So showing university acceptance docs doen't help getting visa rather it may worsen the case.
