What kind of sick person would participate in this type of cruel event... we should be shame of ourselves to celebrate this as a cultural festival every year.. I guess every thing should have a limit.. why has this festival not been banned.. I can not even think of pain and suffering of that goat which is being killed by pulling its part from all sides...

I totally agree prajatantra and neupane

Heard, a slightly morphed version exists in Saudi Arabia where they stone to death criminals with the public watching. The goat, bichara, is not even a criminal.

Furthermore,
dont forget about the legions of other SADISTS taking pleasure by watching that act, live or recorded or hear-say.

Keep rolling...

No wonder, Nepal is now one of the largest killing fields of the world. Thanks Prajatntra.

This is simply insane. Along with this, Bali Pratha should also be banned. Everytime I go to Dashkinkali or Bhadrakali while in ktm, I always come across these cruel acts. They grab the goat's neck or chicken's neck and then just cut little bit of it so that they can get a good flow of blood to sacrifice to God and Goddess. I dont think God appreciates this at all. I have seen on video how Daniel Pearl was killed and it was exactly like this. Only the thing that was different was, he was blind folded. We say salmans are doing these cruel acts but infact we have been doing this for years in the name of God. We all have right to live.Thank you for brining this topic.

Damn.
What festival is this? Of course, in the nation where absolute barbarism is still the norm, and well accepted at that - we do not have to go far for the reasons of blood bath.

We have to end this kind of culture. I am certainly glad that I am not that goat. But I am definitely ashamed of being a human being and a Nepali one at that on the sight of that picture.

Disgusted,
IndisGuise:s

hi all.....i agree with all of u regarding the "goat"....i mean things would have been a lot better if there was no blood.....:).....

but one thing i dont understand, and quite disagree, with the most of u is that, why u feel ashamed and and so sick of it??? i mean, its been there since ages, from our forefathers time....its just the culture.....we always talk about "dahsain ma khasi ko masu ra bhat khana katti maja hunchha"...and think of all the whoppers as well..etc....but have u ever thought about the "khasi" that gets sacrificed??? if u think that its unfair, "arko barsa khasi ko masu khada chai ali bichar garidinu hola"...if you dont like barbarism and blood, then u should be a vegetarian....."kan sidhai samaye pani, ghumayera samae pani autai ta ho ni, haina??? ki kaso????....no hard feelings hai.....just my opinion....

Busybee,

It does not mean that anything our forefather have been doing is good or sane. There is nothing to explain this that an insane act.

As far as bali pratha or slaughter house is concern, that is cruel too, but this festival is above the limit I mean killing the living creature by just snatching flesh when its alive... it is similar to saying "chimoti chimoti marnu"... at least during bali or slaughter home they kill them in one shot.

This is the biggest problem in our country. We have been plunged into such an ashamed culture since the very beginning that we are hardly thinking outside of it. We are doing such brutal acts knowingly/unknowingly because we are so blindfolded that our humanity and thoughts are completely covered by conservative ideologies. We get both pleasure and shame for the same act. I have seen many children frightened from the killing of animals during Deshain, but at the same time, they are eagerly waiting for such acts since Ghattasthapana by counting their fingers one by one. This is not their fault. It is our culture's fault and we need to eradicate such inhuman/ashamed cultures.

Unfortunately, even still today, our rulers a.k.a. royal dictators, are forcing us to do the same. They are forcing us to swallow their leg's water to be a self-claimed lord. They usually go to temples and do the same inhuman acts by massacring animals for the sake of their god. A very recent example: when our more than six dozen brothers lost their lives in Pili of Kalikot, Gyanendra visited eastern Dharan to give the Bali of a black goat. Without a great revolution, such deep-rooted inhuman-cultures can not be changed. The enforcers of such inhuman activities must be punished.

We have to accept the fact that Maoist revolution at the first place was very nicely motivated against such cultures. Examples include, among others, forcing widows to wear red-dresses (it is now at the verge of change), banning of alcohol and gambling from the villages (Maoist controlled villages are almost free from such activities), same kitchen for all castes (It is working when the Maoists are present and needs to make it more widespread) and so on. However, present Maoists' activities are completely brutal, inhuman and condemnable. We have to have a peaceful change in our culture. We also should care to preserve some good and social-friendly cultures at the same time.

"Lets eradicate inhuman cultures and practice healthy cultures by a great social revolution from peaceful means"

OK

Heart of cruelty is FEASTING ON DEAD CORPSES AND giving stupid f****k reason such as ANIMALS are MADE to be EATEN. Sorry, got little carried away there but if you are not vegeterian and you think killing animal that way is cruel then you are one big ball of hypocrisy.

Eating meat is cruel and selfish. Imagine raising a goat to be eaten, it takes so much time , effort and food...If only we all were vegerterians , we would never have shortage of food around the world..people wouldnt starve..anywya thats my 2 cents....

- Are u trying to say that u accept festivals in which killiing is done in a peaceful manner or "nachimoti kana marnu"????

prajatantra ji...i think u havent got my point - "kan etabata samaye pani, uta bata samaye pani akhir samaune nai ho kyare!!!!" haina???....."to kill is to kill".......

neupane,
(hope others dont mind me talking personal)

when i was small, parents were vegetarian, bahunko family, so was I. When I grew up, was sent in a boarding school but they beforehand told the officials that I was a veg, so again remained a veg. Went to campus, by that time, my attitude was quite reluctant towards meat products. Joined Pulchok campus, gave up my vegetarianism for a while. Friends went like "सेकुवा र बीयर नखाने नि कोही ईन्जिनियर हुन्छ, मु*, जग्गेमा हवन गर्नी हो र, ढलान पो गर्नी हो त ईन्जिनियरले ? " like that.... I was more than convinced. so started with eggs, then a few picnics, the Malekhu ko geological trip and fish, gardai gardai momo ma pugesi ta nothing was left.

Came abroad, never thought I would return back to veg (had vowed not to eat beef though) but happened to see a program by Canadian Broadcasting Corp (CBC). Hope it is still in their website (cbc.ca) Saw how the meat is produced in industrialized nations. Chemical compounds को बारेमा त सुनेकै हो तर यो त झन डरलाग्दो biological mutation को कुरो रहेछ। Basically, they dont leave anything out, गाई-गोरु लगायत सबैको लादी, आन्द्रा भुडी सबै फेरि process गरेर फेरि तीनै जनावरलाई खुवाउदो रहेछ। ए बाबा, जिउँदो केही नखानी गिद्ध ले पनि मरेको गिद्ध त खाँदैन, so nature must have a strong cause why these species are not cannibals. But these so called "scientists" are making herbivores like cow, goat and others like chicken eating each-other. So what happened, some brain cells of these farm (factory?) animals got screwed up and mutated. These cells affect the DNA and carried from parents to children. Such cells are like they never die, its a complete new evolution of sth virus like inside the cells of these animals, and it is called BSC or sth like that (the mad cow disease). If one eats such meat, they will die within a month and will also transfer to a new born baby if the baby was ____ within the infected time. Simultaneously, after the outbreak of madcow disease here, though I was supposedly safe as I did not eat beef in particular, a wave of vegetarianism swept in our ईलाका. So, I again resorted back to the good old practice of vegetarianism.

And you really feel the difference, you tend to feel refreshed and always healthy...perhaps its only a psychological perception or not, i dont know, but I am enjoying it.
