I would like to start a thread where we list some notable Nepali restaurants around the world, and maybe a little personal review from the submitters. I like to make it a point to search out Nepali restaurants when I am traveling, and this could be a good guide for everyone to look thru. Perhaps we can come up with some sort of grading scale, 1-10. People can suggest a better grading system if they can think of one.

I will start by mentioning The Nepal-Tibet House in Pasadena, CA (outside Los Angeles). The place is a little gourmet...not the typical hole-in-the wall ethnic stuff, but still great momos! Not the most inexpensive either, but I guess they have to pay rent for being next to Colorado Avenue (old town Pasadena). They have lunch specials. I would rate it an 8 out of 10.

Since we're talking about restaurant recommendations around the globe, let me you give you a lil peak preview about the restaurants in Darjeeling and the adjoining areas.

If you are a momo fan, then consider your trip to Darjeeling as your ascent up to Momo heaven coz that is something you will find in abundance and virtually in every lil street- side restaurant. Among many places, Penang has the best momos in Darj, followed by Dekevas and also a restaurant called New Dish. Now if you have a sweet tooth, then Glenarys smack in the heart of town, can offer you your next temptation. If you happen to drive an extra hour an a half, swing by Kelsang in Kalimpong. I am not sure how many of you have heard of Tea momo, which is something like momo but without the meat filling. Its served with shapta---which is crisply fried, beef. I know some of you will stay away from this, but for those of you who don't give a Dang about religious hang-ups, this is a great dish with Chyaang. And ofcourse, for all you matthus out there looking for a hot sip which could give you a good kick in the cold, try Tongba. Rest assured, you will get a good sleep after this drink!!!

So ppl, swing by "The Queen of the Hills" and while you're there, Bon Appetit!!! :)

Whatever you guys say I like the restaurant named ANNAPURNA at Loveland Colorado. It has Nepali, Indian and Tibetan foods. Momo... just like Churasta Darzeeling ! Their website is www.annapurna.8m.com

An how about Gompu's (spelling?) in KPG ? Their supersized momos really hit the spot after a brisk walk to Doorpin and back. My vote for T momo's , but how about shyafaley?

Tangra restaurant in Queens, NY: located off the intersection of Broadway and Queens Blvd. A cozy restaurant that offers Indian style Chinese cuisine that are accurate recreations of similar dishes from Nepal/India. Their tantalizing appetizers offer a preview of favourite entrees such as Chilly chicken, American chopsuey etc.

Seating is limited so expect a 20 minute wait on weekends. Moderately priced with excellent service from friendly Nepali speaking Chinese family from Calcutta educated in the Darj region. A must-do for Big Apple visitors.

Yeah, you know at Thana dada, Kalingpong.there is a small restaurant its great. I like Dapau.. I don't know right spelling but its good.

Hey Czar...guess what, Gompus belongs to my brother-in-law. :-) And yes their momos are really good hai. What about their cutlets?? Those used to be good as well, hoina??

I think you are talking about the wrong resturant owner who you say refuses to speak Nepali. I live in berkley and there is no such resturant called Kathamndu Kitchen in Berkley. But there is another resturant called Kathmandu Resurant only. I did a little research and also went to that resturant to eat and found out that the fact that the owner actually doesn't know nepali he grew up in darjeeling or something. He only knows hindi and tibeten. I asked one of the waiters that worked there and that was what i was told. Also there are multipule owners there too.

Dazzlin, I'm gripped by a powerful urge for a taste of dapao (thanks Eunice) and such like. Perhaps we could petition your brother-in-law to consider opening just such an eatery on the east coast. What sayest thou ?

Tangra's appetizers are something!
Chicken chilly...yummmmmy.
If you happen to be there when there is a pretty waitress, ask her is she could whip up the chicken chilly, her's beats the head chef's anytime!!
The family is half Nepali and half Chinese and they are from Darjeeling.
So all you folks ordering in English, switch to your matri bhasa. :)

No Nepali kitchen in Taipei or Taiwan, potential for one.
Indian resturants owned by Bangladeshis and Pakis are also doing good business, high price-low grade food, yet house full.

I think the best Nepalese Restaurant in the entire world is called Kathmandu modern Nepalese cuisine. It has a touch of modern and western too. It is kind a unique and good. The normally when we refer to Nepali food.The 100 percent here will say dhaal ,bhat and tarkari.

Dhaal
common guy: i also studied in kalimpong but they have great momo. IF u think of those momo to make money and to feed white guys out here. First, they wont eat it coz it has too many fat. We like fatty taste but for westren it is gross. Second the achaar is to hot, which is not accepted. We have to learn for the taste adaptation. IF u want real thai food they are hot and u can get in home cooking thai shop. IF u go to nice restaurant the taste is diff. Think of commercial value.
I am not thinking to sell nepali food to nepali. The market is already saturated and they dont want to spend money. I am talking about upscale nepali rest. selling royal cuisine with six star service. I am here to make money not to charity

If you live in Melbourne, Australia or happen to visit there, don't miss out eating in "Gurkhas." Their menu consist of nepali and tibetan food. If you are interested in tandoori chicken, this is NOT the place (which happens to be the case of most nepali resturants).

damnnnnnnnnnnn u guyz brought back some memories .....shyafaley.....God how i eat those.Czar are u from kalimpong?Gompuz was my hang out place.I loved thr momoz'.
Back to the topic......thr are some many good neplese restaurants in Colorado....my favourite one is the one in Nederland,CO,it's called "Kathmandu",their food is awesome.Anybody visiting CO should go there for a meal,it is actually mostly neplese food,not Indian like most nepelse restaurants have.

Rastauran 'Base Camp' in the student's city of Leuven in Belgium wont say it is a huge restaurant but the service n food are good. They do sell Indian cuisine too...thats their drawback but they have to look at commercial point of view too...first let people taste Nepali food..if it works out slowly omit indian dishes.
I would give it 6 out of 10.

2 years ago in summer I was in Estes Park Colorado and we went to this Nepali restaurant nearby at a place called Nederland , or something like that. It was in a cool place.
