Please read...I am saddened to hear this.

Dear Friends and Friends of Nepal,

Arbind Bhattarai moved to Houston about two years ago from Pennsylvania. He is currently pursuing his studies at Houston Community College. He is a 22-year-old young man from Kalanki in Kathmandu, Nepal. Unfortunately for Arbind, his family, and all of us, he has recently been diagnosed with a serious case of Lymphoma Cancer. He is presently hospitalized at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. Obviously, his treatment will require a lot of money.

Nepalese Association of Houston has set up the ?Help Arbind Fund,? to help defray the cost of his treatment. We are accepting donations to help Arbind?s treatments (chemotherapy, etc.). Your contributions will help save the life of Arbind, one of our own young Nepali students. So please open your hearts to support Arbind at this difficult and trying time.

Kindly forward this e-mail to your friends and relatives.

Please pledge your support by responding to this e-mail and make the check out to ?Nepalese Association of Houston? with ?Help Arbind Fund? in the memo line in the lower left corner of your check. The checks should be mailed to:

Nepalese Association of Houston

6776 Southwest Freeway, Suite 450

Houston, Texas 77074

Nepalese Association of Houston is a non-profit organization ? tax exempt under section 501(c) (3) of the IRS Tax Code. Therefore, your donations are tax deductible.

On behalf of Nepalese Association of Houston, we deeply appreciate your generosity and kindness in helping Arbind. We have successfully created a family atmosphere here, and it is our responsibility to care for our own. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon. Needless to say - time is of essence in this particular case.

Best regards,

Rajendra Shrestha

President, Nepalese Association of Houston

Thanks badarnikt. I did visit that link. I was just wondering, how is doing. I also thought it will be better to communicate with other orgns (if already not done so) for the effective funds collection.

peace out

So, what about state wise collection through Nepalese association in the differnt states??? The state can also delegate to univesities and the orgns within there. Just a thought. I think this is time to show that we Nepalese can get together and help other Nepali in need.

I hope for a soon recovery
peace out

The Local Nepali associations in Oregon and Seattle have been informed of the need to have a fundraiser.

The Nepal Seattle Society has had fundraisers in the past for two members both of whom had cancer. One is a young student (age 19) she has bone cancer and is undergoing treatment at the Ronald McDonald house in Seattle.

Seattle I believe had a dinner fundariser at a local Nepali restaurant...they sent out an e-mail to the community saying they were going to have a dinner fundraiser and the I think the restaurant donated the proceeds from the dinner to the fund....that might be something that Houston and other cities with Nepali restaurants can consider.

If anyone knows the status in terms of funds recieved vs. how much we need --could you post that so we can try and get creative in terms of fund raising.

Also, I don't know if he was a member of any student clubs at the university, but normally students are able to get a huge grassroots movement going to raise funds...alternately, if the university has a Greek system, the fraternities and sororities normally have money that they may be willing to donate --especially if they know it is for a student of the university...someone in Houston may want to look into that as well.

All the very best.

soory--I had some fundraising ideas...not all of these may be helpful so please excuse me if some seem outlandish:

* I'm sure Houston has a sizable population of high school students if you can get to even three - six of them and get them to get a group of friends together and team up with Houston area members of the Nepali Association, you could have several car wash fundraisers at various places and have the Nepali coomunity go wash their cars and raise some funds ...you know us...always want someone else to clean and pick up our stuff :-)!!

* Momo fundriasers normally are a huge draw ...that might be another possibility--especially if students at university can team up and sell momos at a place at the univeristy that normally has a lot of foot traffic ---(If momo's are cumbersome...Samosa fundraisers work)...we just had a samosa fundraiser at our univ for the Earthquake in Pakistan and raised about 500 within 10 hours (5 hours on Monday and Wednesday during lunch hour - Samosa's were $1.50 each)!!!

* If the Houton association has any Neplai movie or can get one - screen that and charge for attendance---especially if it's a documentary on Nepal, you are more than likely to get members form the larger society as well (meaning not just Nepalese) so you increase your fund base

....I hope some of these ideas are of help....
