Sayami, The difference between Animals and Humans is that Human beings have choice !. A tiger cannot do or live without meat. But humans can do without it. just few interesting facts; Elephant is considered one of the strongest animals. It does not consume meat. Monkeys are one of the most flexible animals : it does not consume meat too.

I turned vegan around this time last year and I did pretty well for about 8 months...Loved the soy hot-dogs, garden-burgers, soy chicken strips, etc. These substitutes kept me going but at the same time was spending double in groceries. The good point was I could feel myself much healthier, lighter, etc. but at times felt that I wasn't getting enough nutrition. One day, was invited for dinner and was hungry as hell. The only thing cooked was momos...Then you know the rest. Thats that of my 8 month vegan life. Am an even more voracious meat eater ever since that fateful day and am glad I'm eating different items every meal instead of soy-based products day and night... Moral: If you're a meat eater turned vegetarian, never ever go for dinner to another Nepali's house hungry...Meat and more meat will be the only tempting course; here veggies are cooked for sake of cooking. They don't really care about the time and effort put into preparing it as they do to meat, the ultimate nepali bhoj item.

I was vegan for 9 months when I was pregnant, well I did not choose to be vegan but my body will not feel good with meat so I had to choose to be vegan. And my doctor was not happy with that beasue they thoguht I am abusing my pregnancy . Well, I had very healthy 8.8 LBS baby boy. Well, but after I had the baby I was craving so much for fried chicken and I was eating them like there is no tomorrow. Oh, gosh I gained more weight after I had the baby.Thank God, I over come those crazy eating habit with in few weeks and now after three years I am slim and thin just like when I was in high school. Well, I do eat meat but it is only chicken, turkey and salmon and of course eaggs. No other kind of meat for me.

Dalli, just hope you aren't confused and you realize that vegan means no milk, butter, cheese, eggs (or any other animal products). If thats what you mean, its no wonder you doc advised you against it. I wouldn't recommend your pregnancy nutrition strategy to anyone else as well...But, to each their own. BTW, a very late congratulations for your lil bundle of joy.
