Marwari community wants their representation in interim parliament

Marwari community has also demanded their share in the forthcoming interim parliament, which is to be formed after the promulgation of interim constitution.

Speaking at the national convention of Nepal National Marwari Council, its acting chairman Atma Ram Murarka said that the community, too, has decided to enter into politics and demanded at least two seats for the community in the interim legislature.

Deputy Prime Minister Amik Sherchan, addressing the concluding session of the council, assured the representation of Marwari community in the interim parliament.

Marwari community is a leading business community of the country.

Let me humour you and explain "copy-paste". For me, it is merely a way of organizing your thoughts and presenting your reply in a structured and coherant fashion. I disagree. We are not breaking up. On the contrary, we are brining issues to the fore that if not dealt with properly and in a timely manner, could result in a broken society in the future. This country has proved to be much stronger than many ever thought. Barring a few glitches, we have survived in ethnic harmony in spite of decades of oppression, in spite of 14 years of mismanagement and in spite of 10 years civil war and 15,000 deaths.

The greatest proof of this lies in our electoral process: Not once, not twice but three times, in 3 successive general elections, the Madises of the Terai rejected the ethno-centric Sadhbhawana party. More Madesis voted for the national parties, headed by Pahades, than they did for the terai-based Sadhbahwana. Same thing for the Rais and the Limbus of the eastern hills : the Janajati party forfeited its depostis in several constituenices. That, my friend, is true strength. I have the utmost respect for that Madesi voter who refused to let anyone else define who he was in spite of getting pretty shitty treatment from the people whom he so longed to be accepted by. Voters like that make this country great and it is because of them that I am convinced mine is a just and moral cause.

There are no "original' Nepalis as such in Nepal. Pretty much, everyone came from somewhere and settled in present-day Nepal. Many did not even know they were Nepalis until the state told them so. Some came a thousand years ago; some, 100 years ago.

No wonder, then, to give one small example, to unsuspecting eyes, a Nepali beauty pageant in Kathmandu looks like as though it had contestants from all over Asia . . . from Korea to Iran, even when all the contestants would be Nepali citizens. That's how diverse, just in terms of facial features, Nepalis are.

That's our one form of diversity.
And that diversity, and the cutures it represents,
is our strength.

True, some ethnic groups as a whole appear to be more successful than others (just as Indian- and Russian-Americans have the highest per capita income in the US) . . . but their success is not something to be
resented.

Instead, let's look for ways to increase the size of the economic pie so that all get larger slices in days ahead in legal, honest ways.

Sure, that's easier said than done, but then, who
says life is easy?

On another note, having met and talked with a lot of Nepali businessmen (esp. the young ones in their 20s and 30s), I sense that they are worried more about other things -- political instability, poor infrastructre, the bureauracy that delays everything than about real or perceived

what did I do wrong ????? I was 18 yrs old...... allare keta.............. when I came to the US and went back home to Nepal only a year ago after for the first time in 10 yrs......I got the shock of my life to see the difference....I left for Nepal for two months and about three weeks time were Nepal band...chhakka jaam...bombing....killing...looting....and yet kathmandu was running fine ...big mall were buing built...housing projects for the rich were being built,....looked Like a normal life to me....but at night it looked like a war zone there were check posts almost every corner...with the rude police and army officers shouting at you EH KAA GAYERA AAYEKO....KA JAANA LAAGEKO.....(this is nepal now??)......So BAthroomcoffee you seem to think I am an old dude or somethin but I aint...................Dont mock me ok .....again I neversaid I was right all the timeand people are wrong except some ........I make mistakes too.....BUT ......
