Please read...I am saddened to hear this.

Dear Friends and Friends of Nepal,

Arbind Bhattarai moved to Houston about two years ago from Pennsylvania. He is currently pursuing his studies at Houston Community College. He is a 22-year-old young man from Kalanki in Kathmandu, Nepal. Unfortunately for Arbind, his family, and all of us, he has recently been diagnosed with a serious case of Lymphoma Cancer. He is presently hospitalized at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. Obviously, his treatment will require a lot of money.

Nepalese Association of Houston has set up the ?Help Arbind Fund,? to help defray the cost of his treatment. We are accepting donations to help Arbind?s treatments (chemotherapy, etc.). Your contributions will help save the life of Arbind, one of our own young Nepali students. So please open your hearts to support Arbind at this difficult and trying time.

Kindly forward this e-mail to your friends and relatives.

Please pledge your support by responding to this e-mail and make the check out to ?Nepalese Association of Houston? with ?Help Arbind Fund? in the memo line in the lower left corner of your check. The checks should be mailed to:

Nepalese Association of Houston

6776 Southwest Freeway, Suite 450

Houston, Texas 77074

Nepalese Association of Houston is a non-profit organization ? tax exempt under section 501(c) (3) of the IRS Tax Code. Therefore, your donations are tax deductible.

On behalf of Nepalese Association of Houston, we deeply appreciate your generosity and kindness in helping Arbind. We have successfully created a family atmosphere here, and it is our responsibility to care for our own. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon. Needless to say - time is of essence in this particular case.

Best regards,

Rajendra Shrestha

President, Nepalese Association of Houston

Don?t forget Nepal

As news started pouring in from Dhaka, one thing that would be remembered for long time would be the Nepalese bargain on providing observer status to China to the Indian proposal of welcoming Afghanistan in the SAARC as its eighth member.

Whereas, Nepalese politician s back home alleged this move, which is probably a first ever diplomatic-shift in decades and decades, that Nepal has exhibited recently as a playing of a China card by H.M the King.

Toeing the same line, Awami League, a major opposition party in Bangladesh alleged that lack of visionary, initiative and proactive role on the part of the government has made the just concluded SAARC summit a mere formality. Perhaps this is the India card , so cheap that opposition parties in the region use so frequently for a mere political survival. This also proves to our discussion last week that India supports a weaker force in the internal politics of a neighboring country to de-stabilize it further.

Moreover, the 13 th SARRC summit will be remembered for a long time to come as a display of support that China possesses in this region. This summit is also a proof that no country except Bhutan in the region is willing to accept India as a regional power. Be it known to India.

Disdaining the efforts put together by the Nepalese government in Dhaka supreme leaders of both the Nepali Congress and the UML left for New-Delhi pilgrimage yet again to meet the Maoists leaders who are sponsoring an armed revolt back home but enjoying pleasant Indian government hospitality there, thus confirming Indian government?s historical double standard of seeing a prosperous and stable neighbor. An international observer in his recent write up claims that India?s affirmations on regional issues in the International Forums are merely for confusing the International community regarding their relationship with the neighbors. Well said!

Analyzing the use of India card by leaders from UML, the leaders who are known for their mistrust and lie, which is also a reason that the Maoists cashed in so easily with the ignorant rural population, as words given by the UML were not delivered, the cadres turned towards the Maoists. The Maoists more so were seen more vocal against India in their initial days but later only to remove majority of their demands concerning India for understandable political reasons. This is perhaps a classical use of India Card in the Nepali politics by the UML and the Maoists respectively. The use of India card by the Nepali Congress, the party which is considerably closer to India than the UML and now the Maoists is left in this column for our readers to make their own analysis.

To the recent visit by the UML leader, once again putting cadres, supporters and the countrymen all guessing, performing yet another spectacle within a week left for Delhi for the second time, his visit this time was claimed for a health checkup a la Girija Baboo?s periodic health check up in Delhi. Madhav Nepal now carries a heart disease which in his own words can be remedied only in New-Delhi, which has no solution back home. Lying continues non-diminu? in Nepali politics as Indian newspapers giving reference to a government employees' claims that a meeting was held in a government?s guest house between the leaders of Maoists, Nepali Congress and UML in presence of various high-positioned Indian Government officials. Thus visit to New Delhi is understandable to our readers as the political wrangling continue to grow more Nepali leaders will carry a heart disease. Whereas a major question is who is going to find a remedy for the people, who are continuously carrying diseases of different sorts since centuries? Neither a Chinese pill nor an Indian one has been able to cure this disease of hunger, inequality, suppression, repression and what not.
