I have recently installed a modem on my computer, but under device manage and under Modem, I get an exclamation sign and when I click on the properties, the device status says something like, "there is no enough resources for this device. Please disable other devices."
I don't know what to do. I have already disabled the LAN card that is built in to the mother board. I even disabled it in bios.
How can I get my modem to work?

Please help.

1. Remove the modem and the software that came with the modem.
2. Reboot it.
3. Reinstall the modem. It should work.
If this does not work right click on properties and then resources, make sure use automatic settings is enabled.
Hope this helps
Shiv

I have installed the modem driver again and again. It did not work at all.
I will try to take the modem out completely like Shiv has suggested, which I have not yet done, and let's see if that helps.
Thanks for all your help. I will let you know if I need more help.

YOU got a modem, why would you disable your LAN card? MODEM and LAN don't work together. If you got a expansion card of MODEM, as a new hardware, then all you have to do is put in your card and install driver after your OS recognizes a new hardware after start up. The question(exclamation) could be driver problem. if you have a different modem in your computer, disable that. There is no use of disabling LAN card unless LAN has modem built in the card.

if that don't work, then get a different one that works with your system. some modems are V.90 some are V.92. some motherboard support V.90 some don't.
you check that too!@

Gham-Pani, What version of OS are you using? have you tried to contact your ISP and resolve the issue?? It could simply be the hardware issue like redstone stated so know your configutation before you do anything else. It not necessary that your motherboard will take any hardware that you try to hook up in your machine. take and technical help from your ISP.

Do Modem Diagonose, It should be in control panel, it will give u the result...
IF not, restart ure computer in safe mode, go to device manager and see what are listed under modem, delete all those and restart ure system. It should work.

Its not a driver problem. Its a problem of not having an available IRQs for the modem. The most common reason for this is the sound card or some other hardware already using the IRQ being allocated for the modem by the OS.

First try to download the latest version of the driver form the vendors website for the correct operating system. Dont use the setup that came with the drivers. copy them to a folder, restart the computer and when a new hardware is recognized, point the driver installation utility to the folder, i.e. let windows install the driver rather than using the setup.exe.

If you are not using the network card, leave it diabled, if that doesnt work, disable the sound card and restart again. once modem is installed, re-enable sound card and restart the computer.

right click on my computer> properties>hardware>device manager. right click on modem and go to properties, click on resources tab and see which device your IRQ is confilcting with to find out which hardware to disable.

Taking a wild guess here, the sound card as well as the modem are trying to use IRQ 5.
