X BOX is right. that is by far the best way of doing it if you call US often. For 22 bucks....it's free....infact, you can make money from your neighbours for letting them use your phone.

Yes, economic broad band plan in Nepal is very bad and very slow. No better speed than dial up. I tried BroadVoice with Wlink broad band (128K) but no success. Because of upload speed only one way communication was possible. Even if you get 128K plan, upload speed is very low like 16K-30K which is not enough for VOIP.
Above all, VOIP is illegal in Nepal. So, be careful in using VOIP in Nepal.

So, if one can get good broad band in Nepal then you can use VOIP like Vonage, BroadVoice etc. BroadVoice even offer unlimited call to US, Canada, Europe etc. in like 20+ dollars.

I tried using Vonage too but not good result. Recently UTL was awarded with VOIP service in Nepal so we could see cheaper VOIP service early next year and you won't see thread thrashing Himtel, Yetitel, Nirvanatel or Tomatotel here in Sajha

If you company is nice enuf to bear internet expense go for Satellite Communication.... you can search internet upto 492 kbps any part of the Nepal. I was really impressed with it.

Just heard from reliable source that thamel.com is launching VOIP in nepal. They already tested and its crystal clear. They had few trial lines along with Mahabir pun's internet system in myagdi area. Now waiting to get final approval from the govt.

"Thamel.com keep up the good work"

HI,

I would suggest you the best. Dialmama.com and kantipurtel.com are providing voip services in nepal. VoIP is 50% legal and 50% illegal in nepal. That is , origination is legal but termination is illegal. This means you can make calls from nepal using voip but can't terminate calls to nepal using voip. So when you get into nepal you can contact kantipurtel or dialmama support and request for voip . They will have a service rep in nepal do the installation for you and the rate for calling usa is just 80 nepali paisa per minute. This way you will be fully legal
