The report also says that another board member of Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) was shot at about 4 months back.

Thankfully, he was hit on the neck and not the head though the intention of the assailant is clear. I could make some speculations here but let us first wish him speedy recovery.

I understand there is a rampant extortion problem in Kathmandu nowadays, by Maobadis and Khaobadis.

Businesses of all sizes are being forced to donate astounding sum of money. Not only that, the private citizens - especially those who have a house, a job, somewhat known in the community and/or have family members(kids) abroad - are also being coerced to give money. One of the consequences is this news of Dr. Dixit being shot.

I thought now that the new political situation has evolved, this kind of extortions and violence would end, but sadly that seems not to be the case.

pediatrician is a physician who specializes in pediatrics. gzzzzzz.

People believe that some khaobadis and errant security forces are ratcheting up the extortion. I just heard that some of the mandales are also planning this to create fear and chaos now that the main political problems are likely to be resolved or addressed in some ways.

Dr. Dixit has been the pediatrician to a whole generation in Kathmandu. I was one of them. Dr. Baral and Dr. Dixit were the top pediatricians of their time.

I wonder why he was shot and who did it. Anyone who get the news, pls post it.

Our prayers are with him and his family. He was also my pediatrician, very intelligent and nice doctor. The people who shot him will die the same death by someone else. what goes around comes around.

Nepal need people like him..no politics, no greed, no biases..just honest work, encouraging to new generation, a perfect and revered human being. There were some people demanding money. They caught the people and they were people pretending to be maoist, thats what he said the other day I met him online.

They both were my doctors too. I owe them for their care and concern they provided when I needed them the most.

My guess, is that the maobadi extortion is reaching out again and its sending a signal to everyone - watch out we are still around and can get you when we want, you better pay us or be ready to get killed.

If you follow the news maobadis are using this time to re-organize, recruit and collect arms. All of these activities more money how else can they get their money without extortion?

Some doctors in Om Hospital have been approached and threatened by Maoists too recently.

Dr. Hemang Dixit is a very decent guy who was my pediatrician too.

I can't believe he was shot. He was a doctor of me, my brothers, sisters, cousins and my friends. I still recall when I was just 3 years old and we knocked his house at 3 AM. He gave me something and I am writing this on Sajha. He used to be the doctor behind the Kanti Hospital in Maharajganj. Doctor with big heart and excellent skills.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this difficult time.

I am very upset by this news. He took care of me when I was little. He is a good doctor and a good person with the kindest heart. He even took care of me when we couldnt pay his fees and gave medicine for free so that we did not have to buy.

I feel as if someone in my family is shot and I am extremely angry.

He was approached by wondering Maoists in Kathmandu for 3 crores. That is why he got shot. Some Dr. Rana from KMC was shot 2 months back by Maoists for not giving money and one Rana family who have shares in KMC are already threatened. Now Maoists are roaming freely with arms in Kathmandu and doing extortions. Girija ko dein Nepali lai !

I am quite convinced that the group demanding money was not Maoist. One of my relative was robbed of a VERY VERY LARGE sum of money. They openly said they were Khao-badi. As I understand, their leader doesn't go to rob or talk face to face.

Yes, the Mao-badis have done extortions. But they would not ask astronomical sum of money. They need to go back again again for a long term.

Three groups are in suspicion: renegade Military, Police, or simply organized gangster.

After Dr. Hemanga Dixit was shot he told the driver to take him to the hospital. Got off from the car and lied down on the stretcher.

I am sure there are lots of culprits, looking for the opportunity to strike but I am convinced that this could only be the maobadis. Regardless of the change in political landscape maobadis will not change. Why would they give-up free ride?
