I thought USD 500 was a bit too expensive unless you have a business enterprise. Also, I am not able to understand why someone would need an NRN card if the person already holds a Nepali passport.

If U a non-nepali citizen, get one NRN card ASAP. But if you have a Nepali passport, better invest on Rodiohead's ideas. period.

http://www.ekantipur.com/the-kathmandu-post/2010/02/15/most-popular/Govt-starts-issuing-ID-Cards-to-NRNs/5195/
Posseessing ID card will allow NRNs to buy properties in Nepal.

According to NRN Regulation - 2009, NRNs can purchase two Ropani land
inside Kathmandu Valley and eight Kattha within the municipality of
Tarai district.

Besides Kathmandu valley and municipality of
Tarai district, NRNs can purchase one Bigaha in any of the Village
Development Committee in Tarai districts and ten Ropani land in any of
the districts besides these categories.

"NRNs of Nepali origin but possessing foreign passport should submit
all details for buying land, the area and price to the Foreign
Secretary for final approval," says the regulation.

The Land Reform Office will issue blue-colour landowner certificate to
NRNs under this category. Other Nepalis get red colour landowner
certificate.

If you have no intention to invest in Nepal, I don't think the card is worth the paper, except the visa fees. Even if you visit every year, you will still not spend USD 500 on the fees.

With NRN card, do we still go thru all process like foreign citizen marrying Nepalese or it is direct process like any other Nepali. Any experience , knowledge sharing is highly appreciated!

I read alot like CDO approval, etc...

If the Nepali government really wants Nepal born  but living outside people to own property and do investment in Nepal, then the expiration date in these card doesn't sound good.
Either the application fee should be significantly lower than the application free for the first time or just made FREE.

ok.. Let's say I got a NRN card as an American/Nepali citizen. The validity of it as said is 10 years. I buy a land or a house in KTM. If I do not renew my card after it expires, will I loose all my property in Nepal that I bought in the 10 years validity time? wtf

It makes sense for US citizens to get the card for buying property in Nepal. However, it makes no sense whatsoever to call NRN who are staying outside the country for more than two years. I guess real NRNs needed more people to be on their side. BTW, that NRN card looks worse than nagarikta card I took some 20 years ago. What a joke!

lal bahadur and dhal bahadur are two sons of toph bahadur. lal bahadur came to usa when he was 18 and studied working in gasstation, ocean city estes park came to sajha like 30 times with immigrations questions and finally got  gc.in the mean time toph bahadur left this world with 6 ropanis land in kathmandu  and 10 bigha land in madesh , value of which is karores. which would take like 2+ lives for mr. Lal bahadur to save up  that kind of money in the usa.
Lal Bahadur is now 33 and married with one kid. Dhal bahadur , brother of lal bahadur is in Nepal smoking weed and drinking on his 20s and now finally married with 2 kids and just living it up on dhal bahadur's property. Dhal bahadur doesn't work but frequently visits casino with late toph bahadur's property. now Lal bahadur wants to take U.S citizenship because he has been through so much and it's best for him and his kid in the future , but he is scared that dhal bahadur will report his U.S citizenship to maal karayala and in that case lal bahadur will be the sole eligible owner of the left property of late toph bahadur. as a U.S citizen can Lal bahadur claim any thing that belonged to his late father ? no body knows...

no dude. you just need to pay $500 and you can go in and go out of Nepal anytime without visa for 10 years. i.e 50 bucks a year. It is like probational nepali green card.

People how much you paid to get American green card ? $5k - $ 40k? and how many you bought a house here and got bummed? Is America secure?

why the hell you all need NRN card when you just complain there are so much insecurities in Nepal? Just don't go stay here.

In Nepal 25 millions, are living in insecurity. In America, 250 millions are living in insecurity.

This situation needs to be addressed.
There has to be an easy, simple, and honest way in which Nepal born foreign citizens could still maintain inheritance property in Nepal, let alone buying new properties.
I understand there could be misuse of this, however one shouldn't be denied inheritance property. Of course the government could restrict on new land NRNs could purchase.

In all honesty, 500 bucks for 10 years isn't really that costly.
