Why would people not respond to college when they send important information.
Why didn't u send ur response when they sent u an email on May 2, 2011 ???
It's all your fault.
Now, Contact the International counselor at South and follow what he says. Youre out of status right now.
Learn from your mistakes now.

F**k that. You can list your major as anything and take classes anything as long as u maintain 12 credit hours. And you can enroll at any branch of your college without notifying DSO. Its strange u were out of status for that reason. Some international advisors are full of shit and yours is one of them. A friend of mine became out of status on the 11 th day of moving out to another apartment.

@houstonguys, I go to HCC and they send me a new I-20 in the mail if it is going to expire. I don't have to call them nor write an email. Actually, I dont even know when my visa, I-20 expires. I am into study 12 or more credit hours and everything is taken care of. You didn't do anything wrong, neither violated your f1 status according to the f1 guidelines given to me by my school.

As furkey bro said, taking courses outside of your major is not a big deal. The counsellor is full of sh*t. However, I am pretty sure that you can be in big trouble if your I-20 has already expired on 5-31-2011. I think the grace period is no more than 90 days to get another I-20. Dont waste time, contact your Intl Advisor or lawyer if needed.

This is quite bizarre. You need not worry by the counslor trying to play fair game by the books. Just take it easy and comply with what's being asked.

I advise you to contact International Counselor at South to immediately to begin the process of reinstatement.
There's the solution in your email.
Good Luck!

First thing, you are responsible of keeping track of when your I-20 expires. Secondly, you can take classes outside your major but once you change your major, you are supposed to go to the International Services at your university and get a new I-20.
Before blaming the counselor, you need to think if you were keeping track of things for yourself. Expecting your counselor to send you emails saying things like your I-20 is about to expire and you need to get a new I-20 because you changed your major is foolish.
However, it seems like there is a solution as your counselor pointed out. Go and talk to him/her and apply for reinstatement. This is pretty tense situation for you but stay calm and cooperate, keep your anxiety and rage under control.

@hustonguy bro, I know yesto bela ma lastai tension huncha but don't penic too much, do best as u can. I have gone through the same condition last year. I don't have specific suggestion for ur case but it is always helpful to get suggestion from ISA. Maile pani cheque ma kam gareko thea for more then a year. Ma reistatement garda pani cheque ma kam garirako thea but after I sent my reinstatement I quiet that job, I doubt they gonna check other things except criminal background and academic history . I was reinstated after one month of application. Register for full time classes and apply for reinstatement is the best thing u can do at this point of time. Good luck.

Bro don't worry things happens. Now you just need to go and talk to your international student advisor and sort it out.
One of my friend was in similar condition but after talking to ISA she reinstated him.
He did not hire lawyer.
Goodluck

@ Houstonguy I did not hire lawyer. I was out of status coz I was drop from one credit physical ed. class and end up with 11 credit. I talk to my international advisor on the last day of 5 month period coz I was unsure if I wanna reinstate I had lot of drawback like not good grades, working in cheque and stuff. But finally I made a decision to go for it. I show them some medical condition that led me to that condition.
U will have to write ur personal statement to uscis, in that letter write more about what u have done so far with ur academics and what classes r u taking and little bit about ur future plans. Try to show them that u are genune student, that helps a lot. U can include recomandation from professor that may help. U have lot of time don't get tensed first talk to ur intl student advisor and if u think he is being unhelpful or so then try to see lawyer.
Btw are u attending school this sem?
Good luck bro!!

I think, here is a FAQ from your college website. Based in this, I think she could bring you back to status
Stay in touch with your advisor.
Your international student advisor’s job is to help you keep your F-1 status valid with the U.S. government, so you can keep your educational goals on track. You must report any changes to your advisor to avoid unintended violations. If you fall out of status, you should apply for reinstatement within five months.
