Hi all -- I have a few questions that maybe someone can help me with. 1. How long does it take for someone on an F-1 visa to get a US citizenship after you marry a US citizen? 2. When a non US born person gets citizenship, is it in the form of an ID-card (like the GreenCard) or is it in the form of a paper document? Is the citizenship status indicated in the person's passport? Your help is appreciated.

1. It takes three years for a marriage based naturalization from the time you get your permanent residency. That means: you have to get your green card first, then wait three years to appy for naturalization. 2. The naturalization paper is a full page certificate (not like an ID card). But you can apply for an American passport: you can use as you ID if you want.

First one have to get married. You have to go to county circuit court and get married. Than go to your lawyer and filled up the firms. Yuo have to apply for the work authorization too. You will get ur work authorization card by a month sometime u may get ur green card earler than work authorization. Once u mail your petition you wil recieve a letter saying to go to nearest ins office to get ur fingerpirnts. Once you are done with that you will recieve a interview notice which should take no longer than 3-4 months. You will ask to have a medical checkup. You have to prepare your other documents too like valid passport(very important, let u know why?) you have to have a min. us household income. You have to have a recent taz document just in case. After all this Pray to god and go for interview. They won;t be hard on you but will try to ask every detail like where, how and when u meet? what your otherhalf likes or dislikes and eachtothers so n so. Well i was saying valid passport cuz they will stamp on it stating that u are us residence or if u have a expired one they won't do that cuz sometime getting G- card takes time even ur case is approved. I know all of this cuz, It have happened to person whom i helped to get G- card. Thats why i am kicking my ass now why i did that stupidity he he he. Your G-card will be valid for 2 years n u have to renew it after that for a year. After a completion of 3rd year u can apply for ur citizenship. wish u a good luck sir.

god bless yo swaati... you did the best thing what a human to do for another human. You saved te guy's life... don't worry what people say in the short run. Think about the long run and be happy on helping a person out. People like you bring smile in my face. I encourage all the Nepali/Americans to help each other to our poor brothers and sisters in the usa in every possible way.

swati thapa i really hope you did not do that.........its people like you who put a question mark to the institution of marriage. you create doubt in INS official's head which other people pay for. i have friends who are married to US citizens with due process, after being serious in their relationships, but get hard time with INS because INS is afraid of cheating people like you. It is not fair to others is all i am saying. dont misuse your citizenship rights dude... what's wrong in being a nepali? live with your fate is what i say.

peepal ji, live with your fate is what you say? sorry sarkar, we humans don't live with our fate. There is nothing wrong to be a Nepali but we human race in over all put effort to improve our living situation. WE humans move from place to place and look for better opportunities. How do you think today's America was established? People immigrate, people move, people try to improve thier life.. it has happned in the past and it will happen in the future and what that brotehr wasnted to do was to make it happen for him in the present.. and you say it is wrong? Swatee ji, just helped a brother in a way she could. At that point if the brother the brother was not helped then he could be livining in a miserable situation of guilt, regrets and frustration. SWatee ji is great , she felt for the guy and helped with all the possible ways... Look from the wider prespective and look from the prespective of humanity not just with INS's point of view. I personally think that all the foreign students should be granted citizenship of permanent residency. If they can bring thousands of people in diversity visa why can't they help the productive people in the country living in a miserable situation of fear and threats of losing status. true relationship? what is true relationship? every relationship is somewhat selfish.. people marry to feel security, feel intimacy and what not reason.. the brother wanted to get married to pursue his wise dreams that is education. Why is that immoral in compare to people who marry to get sex, intamacy or feeling of security? try to be Human, not just american...

As I am a Nepalese girl. I would like to make some suggestion to Nepalese girls. Don't make your life so cheap. Help doesn't mean always help. You might have been done the worse things in your whole life by marry someone for help. It is a Federal crime. You can loose your US citizenship and go to long-term prison. It is stupid and danger. Suppose, if you have good saving money, and he wants to divorce. You might have to give him your share, too. Once you marry, there are many thing ties on both parties. For example, Hong Kongýs ID. Lots of people help each other and finally helper scrud up social status, properties, value of life and self-respect. Bad person mostly act bad, very few can be turn at certain point. So be careful what are you doing? It is not funny and generous at all. You may ruin your whole life and regret forever, too.
