KATHMANDU, July 29 - A Captain of Nepal Army has meted out severe physical torture to officer and a constable of the Police Headquarters.
Captain Rabindra Bikram Rana and some soldiers of the Bhairabhnath Battalion at Maharajgunj have severely beaten and given even electric shocks to Inspector Ram Bahadur KC, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Dharmendra Ray and constable Dil Bahadur Tamang of the Police Headquarters, reported our correspondent Jitendra Sah.

With bruises all over their body and faces, KC and Ray are undergoing treatment at the Birendra Police Hospital while Tamang has been admitted to the Bir Hospital.

The incident followed a minor argument between Captain Rana and his friend Bikendra Bista and the seven-member police team over a wrongly parked vehicle at Thamel early Saturday morning (around 1:45 am).

According to eyewitnesses, Captain Rana and his friend Bista started misbehaving with the police team when it reminded them that their vehicle (a red Gipsy) was wrongly parked on the road in front of the Sanchay Kosh building at Thamel.

The police team took Bista under control when he started hitting them with punches. Captain Rana, however, managed to flee.

The police team then took Bista to the Durbarmarg Ward Police Office for necessary investigation.

Police were still interrogating Bista when over two dozen armed soldiers in full uniform came in two army vehicles from the Bhairabhnath Battalion and surrounded the police office, threatening to hand over Bista, Inspector KC, ASI Ray and constable Tamang to them.

A police officer at the Durbarmarg Police Office said, they handed Bista and the three policemen to the soldiers to avoid any untoward incident. Then the soldiers dragged the policemen to their vehicle and took them to the barracks.

The three policemen were handed to the Maharajgunj Ward Police Office after hours of thrashing and physical torture at the army battalion. There are bruises all over their bodies and faces.

They claim that they were tossed and dragged through dirty water at the army barracks and beaten severely.

Police constable Tamang has claimed that he was given electric shocks at the army barracks.

Meanwhile, army officials said the case was under investigation and action will be taken against Captain Rana if he is found guilty.

Probably more than Prachanda I want to see Nepal Army gone for good. Nepal Army has not done anything substancial in the International state throughout its history. In the domestic stage it is lot worse and also been very counter-productive to the well being of the nation.

ImI, you are the one calling maobadi terrorist and regard Nepali Army (I am sure you’d wish it still be “ROYAL”) as the protectors of the nation; so it doesn’t make sense to me why you are comparing those two. And this is a totally different issue; I don’t see why you are bringing Maobadi in this discussion. If NA has such foolish captains there is definitely something wrong with the whole organization, because I am sure those people who made him captain didn’t do a very good job and Mr. “Chief” of Bhairabhanth Battalion Rajendrajung Khatri should also be fired.

The reason i bring the maoist is that it is maoist who are claiming to remove nepal army.just trying to tell u those kind of captain exist in maobadi forces as well as in US army.It is individual insanity.
Army was controlled by defense minister , it was the time when Sher Bhadur was Defense minister that the army was used against maoist.It was democratic govt. who gave license to fight and find maoist .Now at one point you call every thing is fair when done by maoist and another you claim it is not fair if army does so.

–Becoming? When was it any different?
2. “The Army is a state institution.”
–Who says so? It’s a mercenary army that Nepalese rulers like Shahas and Ranas have been renting out for hefty fees. The Nepalese state pays for it but gets nothing in return.
3. “India doesn’t want army in Nepal.”
–Who says that? Nepalese Army is like a Gurkha Brigade of Indian Army. Nepalese pay for its upkeep but only Indians and their stooge king draw benefit from this mercenary force.
4. “if the parliament then Army followed their orders.”
–When was it that Nepalese Army followed the parliament? Army has been repeatedly used to arrest and dismiss prime ministers. But it ran away with tail between legs when it was employed against Maoists.
