Hi everyone: I am new to Sajha and I am here to seek some help. Here is my problem: One Indian IT consulting company sponsored me and I have been in H1 from past 6 months. I think my employer is not concerned to look a job for me. I have landed myself into big trouble. I have major in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems and minor in economics. Does anyone know any company who can hire me as a programmer? I have specialization in Java/J2ee and most of the programming languages. Please advise me something. Responses will be awaited and greatly appreciated.

texan girl.. seems like the indian consulting company that you have H1B with, is not competitive enough for marketing. what you can do is talk to other consultancies who has better marketing. u can tell them that they can take some money off your salary and place you anywhere. you billing rate will be pretty low. but its ok to start with and afterall you will have better chances for other projects after the first one. You better check with companies in east coast (NJ, NY, VA) and west coast (CA). Coz they are local to the IT hubs in the USA. Still there are hassels involved but something is better than nothing. Good Luck.

texangirl, You will probably be doing a H1-B transfer if you move to another company, but as far as I know you will be needing pay stubs from your previous job to do H1-b transfer but you might check with a good resource too...Do you have any pay stubs from this employer??

Texangirl..There are innumerable consulting firms and noone knows which is better. I would say the best thing would be. Get a list of consulting firms from Sulekha.com and exnazar.com and talk personally. Some might ask to transfer H1 but do not decide on it at the begining. As nepaliJose said you might need pay stubs to transfer the H1. Since you might not have one it, it is better to find a project first. Expand your fields. Look for some easy fields like Business Analysts too. That way you have more chances. Act right now because it is technically illegal to be in H1 and not work. Once you talk to consultancies limit your list to few and come to sajha with the name. That way somebody might have better idea about that consultancy and help. Hope that gives you a bit insight. Good Luck!!

Texangirl, Yes, Colts98719 is right. I think it is advisable that u get involved in a small project...maybe 2-3 months and use the paystubs to later get transferred to a company who can find you better/more projects..

Texan Girl, If you're in TX look for veritis in the internet. I also visted about seven/eight different indian consultancies before joining the veritis group. I found them to be the most professional. so, go and talk to them. if you want some more info, don't hesitate to post a thread.
